The idea behind using this website to both create and update your character sheets is to save time when it comes to applying temporary buffs and getting new features. As a result, it's recommended that when you create your character sheet, you do so in a way that allows you to do this.
As an example, say you're given a buff from "Onslaught", which gives you +2 to Constitution and Strength. Normally that means you'd have to update both of those statistics, then anything that use them, and so on. It becomes a big hassle. However on the contrary, if you simply set things up correctly, you can update them both and everything else just naturally updates afterwards.
The easiest way to do this is by using what are known as "equations".
Many of the fields for features, items, and etc. are equation fields. This means that you can input equations into them, thus letting them automatically update when other stats are changed. Any field that takes in a number and allows you to type anything is an equation field.
When typing an equation, you can use various variables and functions to create your equation. However, it must be valid. For example, the equation "floor(2 + constitutionMod) * skillMod" is valid. So is the equation "3 + min(strengthMod, dexMod)". However, the equation "constitutionMod + floor(" isn't.
As you can see from the above examples, there are specific names for the variables and functions you can use in your equations. Below are a list of those names that you can refer to at any time. Anything in square brackets ([]) should be substituted with the lowercase spelling of whatever you want (e.g. for [Ability Score]Mod, replace [Ability Score] with constitution, strength, willpower, or something similar).
And along with those, there are a few functions you can also use:
On top of using equations in number fields, you can also use equations in feature, reality bend, and item descriptions. By surrounding some text in curly brackets ({}), you can write an equation that is then calculated and displayed as a number once you're done editing it. For example:
This sword does 2d10 + {strengthMod} damage.
If you want to share your character, you can do so by going to that character's settings. Load the character, then click on "Character Settings". From there, you can add another user to that character's "Other User Access". Simply type in that user's name, and add them. From there, they'll appear as someone who can edit or view your character, and you can remove their access whenever you'd like.
When sharing a character, you may also notice the "Can Edit" checkbox. If this checkbox is checked, then the person you're sharing the character with will be able to both view and edit things about your character. If you leave it unchecked, then they'll only be able to view your character, not edit it. Note that if someone can edit your character, they won't be able to clone your character, add or change the permissions of others about who can and can't access your character, and they won't be able to delete your character. Only you, the creator of that character, can do those things.
If someone has shared a character with you, they'll appear in your "Characters" tab. You can also add that character to parties that you create.
